Lifetime Design features on TV One's Breakfast Business Programme

TV One’s Breakfast Business programme featured a report on Lifetime Design on Friday 30th May.  TVNZ reporter Lauradanna Radesic, visited the Generation Developments show home in Hamilton to report on Lifetime Design’s new housing design initiative, which aims to make New Zealand homes more accessible and adaptable.

The report included an interview with Cecilia Hawke, a wheel chair user on the usability of her own home, David Russell the Lifetime Design Ambassador and an in sight into the first home to carry the LifeMark™ seal of approval.  The show home was designed by Colin Davis at Davista Design and built by Generation Developments, both Lifetime Design Foundation Establishment Members

Cecilia Hawke explained first hand how her family home no longer met her needs. As a wheel chair user, Cecilia was suddenly unable to enter and exit her home or complete daily tasks. The Hawke’s have had to spend more than $50,000 to remodel their home so that it is accessible for Cecilia.

Lifetime Design Ambassador David Russell believes the time has come for Lifetime Design. “It is a practical concept that makes sure housing is built to a standard that is accessible or adaptable for the disabled and the elderly, and in doing so creating a functional house for the able bodied too.”

Kevin Atkinson from Generation Developments points out the cost to build a new home to Lifetime Design LifeStandards is as little as 3% extra. With more than one million New Zealanders expected to be over 60 within the next decade this is an idea that really makes sense.

The LifeMark™ show home in Hamilton includes features such as level entry, wider doorways and light switches one meter from the ground. Colin Davis at Davista Design worked with Generation Developments to include the Lifetime Design LifeStandards™ in ways that are not only more practical but create a fantastic looking home with a free flowing feel and modern open plan living.

The TV One Breakfast Business report on Lifetime Design is available to download as a Video Podcast from the TVNZ website for the next few days
